l live in San Diego and l currently do all my duck hunting in El Centro, but l can not find any wood ducks out there. l hear farther up north towards Modesto get really good, but l do not know where to go. Can anyone help me out a little bit and direct me towards some good wood duck hunting anywhere in California please? I've really been waiting to get my first wood duck for about 4yrs now. Where is my best bet in California to hunt wood ducks

Do not know much about CA.but wood ducks generally like water with alot of trees around such as a swamp.

There are lots of woodies around Sacramento and farther north. The place I've probably seen the most is the Shasta Valley, and the Lower Klamath refuges, both up near the Oregon border. You should have pretty good luck at the Delevan refuge, north of Sacramento. You will have to get a reservation to hunt there though. Woodies do seem to be more plentiful early in the season, but a friend of mine shot 2 last weekend at Sutter Basin, which is also north of Sac, out of Marysville.

I used to hunt, and see them at the federal wildlife preserve near firebaugh California, but the place was getting so crowded it was tough to get in to set up early enough.
shoot safe
